This is the song Bob Dylan was going to preform on May 12, 1963 on the Ed Sullivan Show. It would have been Dylan’s first television performance, but CBS did not want him to play a song that criticized the John Birch Society. Dylan claimed it was the only song he was willing to play, and walked off when they wouldn’t allow it.
